Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: What is ¡°Protected Folder¡± in some FTP?
A: ¡°Protected File¡± is a special folder file also can be a file seems to be normal folder, but you cannot delete it by usual way. This feature only support by Microsoft Windows IIS FTP server from IIS 5.0 (Windows 2000) to IIS 5.1 (Windows XP), still support under old Windows 2003 beta version. From Windows 2003 on, IIS no longer support this feature. In old version of LYFTP, build number less than 31107, it can manage this type of file or folder. But now, I remove this function. For this you can do it by manual: e.g. 1) Create protected folder, use ¡°MKD /Com1/ /¡± to make the protected folder with the name ¡°Com1¡±; 2) Enter folder by command ¡°CWD /Com1/ /¡±; 3) Use ¡°RMD /Com1/ /¡± to remove folder. If you use ¡°CWD / / /¡± to create a folder, you cannot see it in FTP file list. It becomes hidden, but you can still access it. You should remember what the name is, and do this with your own risk.
Q: What is FXP?
A: FXP is a term adopted by earlier clients which provided site to site FTP transfers.
Q: Why I receive ¡°Socket Error # 10068¡±?
A: Socket error # 10068 means you cannot connect to the remote FTP server for you have no active network connection.
Q: Why I receive error message ¡°Error 10038 operation on non-socket¡± in data transfer?
A: Error 10038 means FTP data channel cannot be established by some network or software problem. Sometimes your data connection is blocked by firewall.
Q: When trying to transfer files from one site to another I keep getting this error 500 illegal port command.
A: The FTP Server is set up to not allow or doesn't support FXP. Located in the Site Manager on the advanced tab, you will find the option "alternative fxp method". By enabling upload/download (depending on the direction of the transfer), you may be able to get the server to allow FXP. Note: It is common for some sites to only allow FXP in one direction and not the other. By enabling alternative fxp method, this problem is sometimes solved.
Q: Why do I keep getting this message: "Only client IP address allowed for PORT command" when trying to FXP?
A: The FTP Server is set up to block FXP. In most cases using alternative fxp method doesn't solve this problem.
Q: I've tried everything but I can't get a site to site transfer to work, what is wrong?
A: Site to site transfers is not supported by some software/hardware configurations. Often, this is due to an incompatibility with NAT (Network Address Translation). NAT is not aware of site to site transfers and when it detects you are attempting to transfer a file, it modifies the FTP protocol to match your local "inside" IP. Several users have reported that Microsoft Internet Sharing is not compatible.
Q: Why can't I see more logs in status window?
A: You can increase the scroll back buffer size in ¡°Options->Preferences->Display¡±.
Q: Why can't I see any files? I can see them in other ftp clients.
A: There are three possible reasons.
1. You are behind a firewall and the FTP server is unable to connect to your computer. To resolve this issue you need to use Passive mode. This option is located in Preferences on the Proxy tab. Check "Use Passive mode".
2. The files may be hidden on the ftp server, and in order to see them you need to change the list method. This is located in Preferences on the Options tab. Change the List method to show hidden files. Note: some sites don't allow you to view hidden files and will result in an error. To resolve this problem, go into the Site Manager, select the site and click the advanced tab. Uncheck "show hidden files", then save to keep the changes.
3. Some FTP server does not allow you list the root directory. LYFTP will change the directory to root directory after user logon by default. But some server will change the directory to user default directory and the root directory will deny access. Then you can turn off ¡°Change to user root directory after user logon¡± function off to let you enter the user default directory.
Q: I am using Chinese Windows 98/ME, why the Chinese font looks so small?
A: This problem happens on Windows 98/ME systems. This problem causes by font compatible problem with Win98/ME and Win2000/XP. Using English GUI in Win98/ME can fix this problem and using Win2000 to solute it.
Q: When FXPing why doesn't LYFTP show a file progress, transfer speed or how much time is remaining?
A: The FXP protocol (site to site) doesn't provide any means of measurement. After one file is FXPed, LYFTP attempts to estimate the remaining time for the next file and total remaining time for all files in the queue.
Q: Will LYFTP ever support connecting to more then one site?
A: LYFTP was designed to provide very easy access and usability to FTP feature. By multiple instance monitor you can connect more than one site for the site to site feature. Allowing more than one would only complicate things. For now let's stick with one.
Q: Why doesn't LYFTP download http:// URLs?
A: LYFTP is not a web browser or a web download manager. For LYFTP you need to use the ftp addresses only ftp:// or ftps://.
Q: Is it possible to import site lists from another FTP clients?
A: No. You can only import LYFTP site list other format are not support yet.
Q: How to use FXP in LYFTP?
A: We have just the thing for you, open two LYFTP and connecting to the special site, with a right-click of the mouse in selected file, select FXP(Site to site). Now you can choose a way to do FXP form Manual or Site already opened.
Q: I try to connecting to FTPS but it said "SSL Library not loaded". Why?
A: You may reinstall LYFTP, because you lose two files named SSLeay32.dll and Libeay32.dll.
Q: Does FTPS site support FXP?
A: Not all Implicit SSL ftp site support FXP. If the server has CPSV or SSCN support, data transfer will be protecting by SSL or else data will be sending in clear mode. Explicit (Auth) SSL/TLS ftp site can support FXP but data transfer channel is not protecting by SSL.
Q: I use ZipMagic and now all of my zips appear as folders in LYFTP, how can I make the zips appear as zips?
A: You need to make one small change in the ZipMagic Properties window. First, click the Start Menu, then go to Programs|ZipMagic 4.0|ZipMagic Properties. Click the "Zip Folders" button, then click the "Applications" button. Then just add LYFTP to the list of applications that sees zip files as files.
Q: Why LYFTP so similar to FlashFXP?
A: The GUI and the functions of LYFTP are
similar to FlashFXP. Although they are both built
with Borland Delphi, they have a different core! LYFTP is built base on Internet
Direct Component for
